About the event

A Practical Marriage Workshop for Real Life

If you’ve ever thought, “Why do we keep having the same conversation?” “Why does this feel harder than it should?” or “Why are my expectations never met?”—you’re not alone.

Most marriages don’t fall apart in one dramatic moment. They slowly become heavy under the weight of unmet expectations, unspoken assumptions, and everyday stress and pressures that never get unpacked.

Carry What Counts is a practical, engaging workshop designed to help couples understand they are individually carrying baggage, and that they think differently and have different emotional and physical expectations. Most of all, couples will be guided on how to move forward together with greater clarity, fulfillment, and purpose.

Led by Darran (D.L.) and Dr. Shelly Crager—married for nearly 40 years and marriage mentors for over 25 years—this workshop combines clear insight, relatable humor, and real-life application for any stage of marriage. It’s not counseling, and it’s not a lecture. It’s a chance to finally come face to face and make sense of patterns that show up in everyday real-life marriages.

You will walk away from Carry What Counts with:

  • Clearer Insight into Why You and Your Spouse Communicate Differently Under Stress

You’ll learn how men and women are often wired to handle pressure in different ways—and how those differences, when misunderstood, create unnecessary conflict. Instead of guessing or getting defensive, you’ll gain a language that helps you interpret each other more accurately.

  • A Simple Framework for Understanding What’s Harming Your Marriage

You’ll identify how unmet expectations, family background, past experiences, and current life pressures disastrously accumulate over time—and why ignoring them only hurts a marriage. This framework gives couples a healthy and shared way to think and talk about issues without blame.

  • Practical Tools You Can Use Immediately

This isn’t just insight—you’ll walk away knowing what to do differently the next time tension rises. Couples will learn simple, realistic ways to reduce defensiveness, avoid common misfires, and stay connected during difficult conversations.

  • Greater Emotional and Physical Connection

The workshop addresses both emotional closeness and physical intimacy, helping couples recognize how distance can grow unintentionally—and what helps rebuild connection in healthy, respectful, and fulfilling ways.

  • A Shared Language You Can Keep Using

Rather than leaving with vague inspiration, couples will leave with a shared language and framework they can return to again and again—making it easier to navigate future seasons together.

Who This Workshop Is For:

This workshop is designed for couples who:

  • Want to stop fighting and start living with a healthy understanding and hope

  • Feel stuck in the same conversations or patterns with no hope

  • Yearn to enjoy their marriage and be content and fulfilled emotionally and physically

  • Want to strengthen their healthy marriage with more tools to safeguard their family

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from this workshop.

You just need to be willing to pause, reflect, and learn how to carry what truly matters—together.
